Literacy Centres
Every morning, students enter the classroom, sign in by answering a question of the day and then they visit one or more of the self-directed literacy centres. Some of the centres have worksheets associated with them to help reinforce the learning--you may have seen some evidence of your child's learning come home in his/her mailbag! Ask your child to explain to you the activity that they chose to participate in on that day!
Numeracy Centres
Our classroom has a number of numeracy centres that help to reinforce some of the concepts being taught during our math lessons. Students work independently or in small groups at activities that reinforce number sense, counting, identifying numbers, sorting objects, creating sets of 5 or ten, etc. Self exploration during play is an important time for children to apply their knowledge and helps to solidify their understanding of math concepts.
