Will it sink or will it float?!
March 19, 2013 - This week, we have started to explore the concept of 'Sink or Float'. We have been making predictions about whether an item will sink or float, then experimenting to get the results! We have also been trying to figure out WHY an item either sinks or floats.
Exploring Shadows
January 31, 2013 - This week in our classroom, we have been learning about and exploring shadows! We have been asking questions(beginning with an "I wonder..." statement, making predictions about the outcome, and investigating the responses to our questions! Today, we explored the question, "I wonder if I can make my shadow move"... and the answer is "Yes!" We have been using a variety of different tools to discover more information about shadows, including flashlights, natural light, science videos, overhead projectors, and a nature walk - although it ended up being cloudy and we didn't find any shadows!
Building Ramps
Students have started conducting simple investigations, through free exploration, focused exploration, and guided activity. They have been building ramps, and making predictions/observations before and during these explorations. Students are learning to communicate results using words and pictures. Some examples of this are: how to build a ramp, how to make something go faster on a ramp, why a ramp makes things go faster, etc. Here are some pictures of the ramp building we did in class today! (January 15, 2013).
Science Investigations
We have been learning all about apples. We read a story and went on a hunt for a little red house with no windows, no doors, and a star inside...
We discovered that apples have a star inside! Way to go Logan for helping to solve the mystery. We recorded our observations of the apple before we cut it open and the apple after it was cut in half.
